There’s something about Fridays! And there’s no better way for me to celebrate all I’ve accomplished or survived over the week, than cranking up some tunes and shaking what my Mama gave me!

When I worked at an ad agency back in 2008, I started, and then instituted, a weekly, Friday ‘Disrumption’ with my team. News soon spread to the other departments and next thing you know, we had guys and gals from all the halls reporting to our part of the cube farm to get their groove on. I was one of two Black people that worked there, a reality for most of my corporate life. But, when I turned up the tunes, there was no color or gender in the room, just jamming.

So, this Friday, and as many as I can, regularly, I invite you to ‘disrumpt’ with me. Sometimes, you’ll feel all inspired with the messages in the music. Other times, the music will be a l’il ratchet and about moving you, not necessarily motivating. You are forewarned. So, don’t be holding your pearls and emailing me, if you don’t like something you hear. But if you do, let me know. And, let me know if you have recommendations and/or requests. I’ll include some in the mixes to come and shout you out.

Now, enough talking, on to the music. Follow me on over to Spotify. Here’s what I’m dirumpting to this week:

Rolling Hills — Jill Scott (celebrating these curves)

Daddy Lessons — Beyonce, Dixie Chicks (honoring my Daddy, his lessons and his covering)

What Cha Gonna Do for Me — Chaka Khan with Rufus (what I need to know from anyone in relationship with me, personal, business or otherwise, because I know what I’m bringing to the table)

Work It — Missy Elliott (a pearl clutcher, but, I do know how to work with what I got to get what I want ib business and in life. get your mind out of the gutter)

All the Way Up — Fat Joe, Remy Ma, French Montana (cause that’s where I’m headed)

Top of the World — Brandy, Mase (feeling like this today)

Who’s That Girl — Eve (that’s what they ask. and I’m glad to tell ‘em)

Next Up — Disrumption Series Ep. 002: See the playlist that inspires entrepreneur, Bola Sokunbi, as makes moves in her business of Clever Girl Finance.
